I’ve always been teased for being the most environmentally conscience conservative people have ever met. From eating as many organic foods as possible to carrying out 90 gallon recycle bins every week I’ve always done my part to do what is right for posterity and for my country. I’m just another example of how stereotypes of the green movement are not only inaccurate but also dangerous to progress. Labeling and attacking people who don’t fit the mold of this stereotype only causes alienation and resentment as well as misunderstanding.I’m here to say that no matter what a person’s political beliefs the most important thing to do is educate others on the importance of sustainability and its counterpart of “going green”. It’s OK to be a gun owner who appreciates small government and lower taxes while wheeling out a gigantic bin of recyclables. I do it all the time. In the same breathe don’t alienate others because they don’t recycle the gross tonnage you do or they aren’t green enough or don’t drive a Prius. If we all make an effort now we can do what’s right for our kids and our country.
So that being said I’m happy to announce that Miocon actively maintains and operates a green initiative. It’s not to save the Earth but for our future generations and our country. The “save the Earth” approach is not as effective as it could be. Let’s face it…. the Earth will still be here long after humans destroy it. It survived for millions of years before us and will survive for millions more (assuming no galactic implosion). Not to mention “saving the Earth” is so impersonal and seems like a gargantuan task. I can barely get my normal routine in every day less saving the Earth. If we approach the same problem from a different angle and modify the mission we can become so much more effective.
Let me expand. Telling a parent recycling will save the Earth doesn’t mean much when struggling to change diapers, give baths, etc. Tell the same parent that recycling can help ensure a better life for their children and help make our country stronger then I’d bet that their opinion might change on the matter. The truth is practicing sustainability and performing the recycling mantra of reduce, reuse, and recycle will help save our kids and our country from calamity and chaos. Natural resources are finite. When they start to run out terrible things will inevitably happen. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not all about the doom and gloom but we’d be taking a huge risk if we do nothing and assume somebody else will take care of things. With more compassion in capitalism and more activity from consumers our country and our future generations can prosper.
All it takes is doing something and incorporating it into your daily life. If you see two trash bins, one for trash and the other for recyclables, throw your plastic cup or aluminum can in the recycle container. Choose to use those recycle bins your city may provide you with. Spend the extra money to pay for recycling service at your residence. Everything we do will help ensure our kids and our country’s future.
It’s this approach we proudly take every day at Miocon. We all practice some form of “going green” and doing our part. So take a look at our efforts and our impact and let us help you go green.
